YMCA Cheshire works with children and young people across Cheshire, creating opportunities that help them learn, build confidence and reach their potential. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative STEM Club Facilitator to plan and deliver engaging, hands-on activities for children aged 8 to 12.

You will make science, technology, engineering and mathematics fun and accessible, particularly for children and young people who may not otherwise have access to these opportunities. Through practical activities and positive relationships, you will help participants develop their curiosity, confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate, reliable and creative STEM Club Facilitator to lead interactive STEM sessions within after-school settings and at YMCA Cheshire’s STEM Club.

This is a varied and rewarding role where every session may look different. One week, you may help young people complete a science experiment or engineering challenge, while another session could involve technology, mathematics, creative crafts, games or other practical learning activities based on the interests and needs of the group.

You will create a welcoming and inclusive environment where children and young people feel safe, supported and encouraged to participate. You will also be responsible for preparing resources, managing risks, recording attendance and helping YMCA Cheshire understand the difference the sessions are making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate STEM activities for children aged 8 to 12
  • Use practical, hands-on activities to encourage curiosity, creativity, teamwork and problem-solving
  • Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that supports young people’s confidence and wellbeing
  • Prepare resources and venues in advance, ensuring materials are safely stored and spaces are left clean and tidy
  • Record attendance and participant information accurately using YMCA Cheshire’s systems
  • Monitor engagement, contribute to feedback and evaluation, and adapt sessions where needed
  • Manage risks appropriately and follow safeguarding and health and safety procedures
  • Work positively with colleagues, schools and partner organisations.

This is a permanent, term-time role working three hours per week, with a start date of September 2026.

The rate of pay is £13.45 per hour, with holiday pay calculated at 13.54% of hours worked. Payment will be made weekly during term time, and there may be opportunities for additional hours during school holidays when YMCA Cheshire runs holiday clubs.
