Sessional Worker

YMCA Cheshire

Thank you for your interest in the position of a Sessional Worker

YMCA Cheshire works with children and young people across Cheshire, creating opportunities that help them build confidence, develop life skills and reach their potential. We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Sessional Worker to support the delivery of positive and engaging youth club activities.

You will work directly with children and young people, helping to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where they can take part in activities, build relationships and develop their confidence and self-esteem.

The Role

We are seeking a positive, creative and dependable Sessional Worker to join our team and support the delivery of our term-time Youth Club.

This is a varied and rewarding role where each session may look different depending on the interests and needs of the young people attending. Activities may include football, sports, games, arts and crafts, life-skills activities and other positive group sessions.

You will work alongside a team of three Sessional Workers and report to the Youth Programmes Development Manager. You will help prepare and deliver activities, engage positively with young people and ensure the club remains safe, organised and welcoming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging activities for children and young people
  • Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, wellbeing and participation
  • Help prepare resources, set up the venue and ensure everything is cleaned and stored appropriately after sessions
  • Follow safeguarding and health and safety procedures, reporting any concerns promptly
  • Manage emerging risks during activities and help maintain a safe, controlled environment
  • Support young people to develop practical life skills and participate in activities
  • Work effectively with colleagues and contribute to after-club briefings.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is enthusiastic about helping children and young people thrive
  • Can engage young people using a range of positive and creative approaches
  • Builds rapport while respecting different cultural, religious and individual needs
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, health and safety and professional boundaries
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates information clearly
  • Is dependable, positive and able to respond calmly to changing situations
  • Is willing to complete first aid and food safety training where required
  • Is aligned with YMCA Cheshire’s values and positive “can do” approach.

Why Join Us?

At YMCA Cheshire, you will join a passionate and supportive organisation dedicated to creating better lives and better futures for individuals and communities.

You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping young people access positive experiences, build their confidence and develop skills that can support them in the future.

You will work within a values-driven environment that supports staff wellbeing, learning and development. Benefits include training opportunities, sick pay, pension contributions, life assurance, an Employee Assistance Programme and a Health Cash Back Plan.

This is a permanent, term-time role working 2.5 hours per week, every Tuesday from 5.00 pm to 7.30 pm.

The role will begin in September 2026, with a rate of pay of £13.45 per hour. Holiday pay is calculated at 13.54% of hours worked. You will be paid weekly during term time, with opportunities for additional hours during school holidays when holiday clubs are running.

Any offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

If you are passionate about working with young people, enjoy creating positive activities and want to help children and young people build confidence and life skills, we would love to hear from you.

Kindly complete the application form and submit it through the YMCA Cheshire vacancies page by 5.00 pm on Sunday 9 August 2026.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview during the week beginning 17 August 2026.
