Children and Young People’s Practitioner

YMCA Cheshire

Thank you for your interest in the position of Children and Young People’s Practitioner at YMCA Cheshire.

YMCA Cheshire provides supported accommodation and a range of community services for children and young people who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. Our work is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and focused on helping young people build independence, improve wellbeing, and move towards sustainable futures.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Children and Young People’s Practitioner to provide high-quality, person-centred support to young people aged 16–17 living within YMCA Cheshire’s supported accommodation services.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. One day may involve supporting a young person with budgeting and independent living skills, while another could involve delivering a cooking session, attending pathway meetings, or helping a young person access education, training, or employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support tailored to individual needs
  • Carry a caseload of young people and provide one-to-one key work sessions
  • Develop and review personalised support and resettlement plans
  • Support young people with independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, shopping, health, hygiene, and tenancy readiness
  • Promote safeguarding at all times and respond appropriately to risk and crisis situations
  • Advocate for young people and ensure their voices, concerns, and ideas are heard
  • Build positive relationships with external agencies, housing providers, and partner organisations
  • Deliver engaging one-to-one and group activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, and gardening
  • Support access to education, employment, volunteering, and wellbeing opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to effective team communication and service delivery

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Believes in the potential of every young person
  • Has experience working with children and young people in supported accommodation or similar settings
  • Understands safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and risk management
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people and professionals
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for work purposes

Why Join Us?

At YMCA Cheshire, you’ll join a passionate and supportive organisation dedicated to creating better futures for individuals and communities.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day, working within a values-driven environment that supports both professional and personal development.

This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) with shifts typically between 9am and 10pm, Monday to Sunday, including some weekends.

If you are enthusiastic, compassionate, and committed to helping individuals rebuild their lives, we would love to hear from you. Kindly fill in the application forms and return these by 9.00 am on Tuesday 9 June 2026
